Question about what's in your file

Hi all,

I was curious about what paperwork is in your file when you appear for your USC interview. I had my interview a few weeks ago, and the officer had a thick file with some white-colored papers and some blue-colored papers in front of him.

I asked him if I could get a copy of my file and he stared at me, then pretended he didn't hear me. When I came out, I asked someone else at the front desk and he said I am not allowed to get a copy of my file.

Thanks,

- RK

Among other things, the file contains your entire immigration history - records of past visa applications, green card paperwork and background checks etc.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you know if I can make an Infopass appointment and find out what's in my file or if I can get a copy of my file?

When I was younger, I never kept copies of anything. But as I have gotten older and have lived longer in the U.S, I have started requesting and keeping copies of all kinds of paperwork. I also make copies of my paperwork before hand now before mailing it in.

It is funny - sometimes, some people (especially in the doctor's office) will try to deny me a copy of something that they just had me sign - like their privacy policy or insurance paperwork. And then I have to remind them that by law, they have to give me a copy of anything that I have signed. They may deny me copies of paper-work that I did not sign. They don't like it but then someone in the office runs the paperwork through their photo-copier and hands the copy to me.

Just slap them with FOIA request and/or Privacy Act request. I just send my request (or should I say demand) to CBP for my mother-in-law's complete file as well as all records they shared with USCIS.
