How long it usually really takes to receive package with those documents? I read in official sources that it should take no more than 3 weeks.
Please help me build exact steps for Mom (what she should do after arrival to U.S.?):
1. She comes to "Social Security Office". My question about this step is: Why she should come to Social Security Office? So that she could get SSN&Green Card on her hands, or for clarifying information about address to which the SSN&Green Card gonna be sended out?
2. We specified as a mailing address some good friend of ours. We specified this address with recipient's name already year ago when we filled DS-230 forms with our first package, so as I understand some department can already send GC&SSN to our friend's address (even though we currently not in U.S.?).
2.1. Another question is what will happen in case if SSN&GC will be lost in mail? How big our problems will be in that case? Can you please play out the scenarios of what worse can happen if GC&SSN will be lost, what worse can happen if some Russian(previous country) documents will be lost, or what worse can happen if foreign passports will be lost. (Of course we don't want it, but I have even no approximate idea if such thing will happen)
3. My Mom will arrive to U.S. in ~September 17, and she want to start job search immediately at the day of coming to U.S. but at that time and 3 weeks further she will not have any SSN&GC. Should she try to attend interviews and get employed without these documents by explaining to employer that she will soon receive them?
4. Is there way to avoid this 3 weeks delay in receiving GC&SSN, by requesting this documents prematurely while we yet in Russia? I mean planning everything so that my friend could in U.S. get that SSN&GC for our family and only then flying to U.S.?
5. What will happen if my mom will spend all her money and she accidentally will take welfare? Is this gonna be death of her potential citizenship 5 years later? (or how hard gonna be getting citizenship 5 years latter to her if she will somehow take welfare?)
6. What worse can happen if my mom will out of money in U.S. (will not be able to pay rent), and if she will refuse to return back to Russia even though she out of money? I mean now after getting visas is there still chance that she can lose her status of permanent citizenship because of her poverty? (otherwise why consulate would use poverty guidelines?)
Sorry for noob questions, but knowing answers on them will make me more prepared and will set a good basis for greater further prioritizing of my help and guiding Mom & sister.
