Question about Parent's GC interview in US, Docs needed, Interpreter etc...

I see so many pointers for spouse Greencard (understandably so) but not many for parent's interview in USA. I have recd the Interview Letter and it lists the document that I have already sent. Is there anything I should collect and take with me?

What kind of questions do they ask? Do we have to take an interpreter or can I translate for my father?
 
My mom received her green card in the US last year. Please check my posts around Feb/march 2011 timeframe. If you have specific questions send a PM.

One thing to add is that I was not allowed to translate the questions - I simply re-stated it in a way she could understand. I had gone over all the questions with her prior to the interview.

Thanks for the info. It's not that my dad cannot understand English, it's the accent that he is not comfortable with. I will ask my sons to talk to him in pure American English and train him!

If American accent is an issue, you can re-state or re-phrase the question to him during the interview. Questions asked usually cover information already on the application forms. Be prepared for the question "When did you decide to apply for green card?"
 
What are the documents that I need to bring with us for the interview? We have not applied for EAD or AP. As of now, I am planning to take

1) Original and copies of his non availability, affidavit, school certificate, passport, marriage certificate, my mom's death certificate.
2) Original and copies of my birth certificate, employment letter, W2, pay stubs, naturalization certificate, US passport.

Is there any thing else you could think of? What is the interviewer looking for in parent interviews? Are they suspecting fraud or are they interested in the financial capability of the petitioner or are they suspecting their intent of immigration?

Bring originals of everything you provided a copy of. I brought the documents listed above and also affidavits for name difference and birth certificates. Make sure that your dad's I-94 is with his passport - USCIS will take it back.

Parents interviews are usually straight forward unless you are missing some critical documentation like birth certificate.

Does your birth certificate show your father's complete name (and is exactly same as in his passport and USCIS applications)? If name is spelt differently, you might need affidavits.

If your father has difficulty understanding American accent, you can re-phrase the question to him. You cannot translate it in your language.
