Hi!
Here are my details:
Center: CSC
Mailing date 7/9/7
Check Cash date: 7/16/7

We mailed both our applications in one cover and both the checks were cashed on the same date.

I am still waiting for receipt. But, How/when one does know if the case was approved or not?
Along with the receipt or separately?

Thanks in advance.

Since sooooo many people are applying for citizenship and other immigration benefits, the Receipt Notice form I-797C takes anywhere from 10-21 days to arrive. I will provide a link to another posting I made regarding the complete application process. I submitted on June 30th, while others submitted on June 26th, and none of us have heard anything from USCIS/CSC. So sit tight and wait...wait .... wait. It sucks but this is the part of the process everyone goes through right now.

Ok.

You fill out your N400.
You mail it.
You get some kind of confirmation that it was received.
You wait 5-10 days.
You will get notification by your bank that your check has been cashed during the 5-10 days wait.
You wait some more 15-21 days after the check is cashed.
You will get a notification during the 15-21days wait in the mail called I-797C Notice of Action. This is a receipt from USCIS.
Sample Receipt NOA: http://www.immihelp.com/citizenship/naturalization-receipt-notice-of-action.html

On this form you will find your Receipt #, Date Application was Received, Date NOA was Mailed, Priority Date (PD).

You wait some more 1-2 months.
You get another NOA I-797C while you wait only this time it's for fingerprints.
Sample Fingerprint Notice NOA: http://www.immihelp.com/citizenship/sample-finger-print-notice.html

On this form you will find your Receipt #, Date Application was Received, Date NOA was Mailed, Priority Date (PD) and Fingerprint appointment location date and time.
You get your fingerprints.
You wait A LOT! Now is the background check by the FBI and Name Check. This could be good or bad and it could be quick or take as long as...1 year or more!
You wait and if you are lucky you get a Notice to Appear at Interview.
You attend interview. Hopefully pass the English writing test, English reading test and the exam on US Civics and History.

You get this form called N-652:
http://www.immihelp.com/citizenship/naturalization-interview-results.html

You pass! Hopefully, otherwise you get this form and other stuff is checked.
You wait some more and then you get form N-442 to appear at Oath Ceremony.

You attend ceremony, take Oath of Allegiance, and you are then a U.S. citizen.

It's a really long process. I hope this clarifies any confusion. Please see my other postings
