Question about missing original I485 Receipt

My wife entered US via AP. When she arrived Detroit POE, she presented the officer the original I485 receipt, AP and passport, but the officer didn\'t return her original I485 receipt back.

My question is:
1. Do we still need the original I485 receipt in the future, i.e. Fingerprint, passport stamping, possible AP/EAD re-application(expired within 1 year) or possible local INS interview?
2. Can we call INS Detroit POE to get the original receipt back? Where can I find their phone number?

You should probably try to get it back.

While I don\'t know why it was taken nor do I see the need in the future, I would still try to get it back. I\'ve heard so many stories that an officer doesn\'t necessary know what s/he is doing if you don\'t ask when in doubt.

Anyway, you don\'t need the original I-485 receipt for FP, PP, EAD/AP renewal etc. Don\'t worry...

My lawyer did not give me the original one at all, just a fax copy!

Do we have to have the original one?
