Question about I-140 premium screening before EAD/AP

I know there's a I140 premium screening, even approval if documents are ok, that before INS issue EAD/AP. I have one question, if I only apply for EAD(because the lawyer charge for $500 each for EAD and AP, and I have no plan to travel outside US next year, so want to save some money), will my I-140 be pre-screened or even processed?
And what's you gurus' suggestion about whether I should also apply AP along the way?

I filed only EAD and no AP. I recently received my EAD after 90 days but I have a query running on my I140. I dont know how things impact but it is not must to apply AP and EAD together.

(Note: this is not a legal answer. Just my experience and others words)
