Question About Enrolling In College

Is it possible to enroll in college and NOT be classified as an international student while ur AOS application is pending?

If so how would u be classified?

I know it largely depends on the institution and or state.

Does anybody know anything about this...especially in Philadelphia?

Are receipts from USCIS indicating ur application is pending enough?

Hope this helps

Hello my case is still pending ,i used my lawyer to persuade the people at my school to let me start this semester. However i am attending a community college ,i am classified as an American resident.I do not recieve any financial aid nor do i qualify because i do not have a green card as yet.All i did was have my lawyer speak to the Dean of admissions and they agreed to let me start,i took my Ged Certificate ,passport,I130 receipt,I 485 receipt and one form of Id which was my Ead card.Hope this helps

It does.

Quick question though...Do u get to pay resident tuition as opposed to international?

I don't have a lawyer so I guess I'm gonna have to convince them myself. I dont plan on starting till Spring by which time I would have had my interview(hopefully)...I however have to complete my application and whatnots by mid October.

Thanks for ur response.

I pay a residents Fee which helps a lot .I am not considered an international student ,do you have your social security # as yet because you need that to register for school?.

Yeah I got my Social security card and Driver's license when I first came to this country as an F-1 Student. I'll call 'em tomorrow and find out how that goes. Thanks an awful lot.

I will start study accounting next week in a community college. I do not have any lawyer and I just show him my I797c forms. The student adviser only charged me locals school fee.

I brought all my transcipts including my master degree from Australia and BA degree from HK (both are not accounting major) He pointed out my master degree is from English-speaking country. He accepted my application at once. Additionally, he would like to test my written skills. So I did a test. The test was easy, I guess it is a community college and I was lucky to talk to a nice student adviser. :)

i applied for a graduate program in a 4 year college, and i didn't have any probs. i took my notices and told them that i haven't gotten my interview letter yet but it is pending. take your ss card, drivers license, and all notices. also some mail with a date that shows that you have been in your state for at least a year, or maybe your drivers license will indicate that. this way you get to pay residents fees. you have to wait till you get your physical GC to get financial aid and TAP. i didn't have a lawyer. but what i did was go to the admissions dept. and talked to the guy that was sitting there. he spoke to his supervisor and they were ok with everything. i didn't go to any particular major's dept, just went to the admissions dept of the school.

There are no issues with enrolling an institution for studies while in I485 pending status --- the problem arises when school officials are not aware/educated about this and you have to convince them or have your attorney do this. People request that very often.

Whether you qualify for in-state or out-of-state tuition is another matter....this is usually an issue decided by the particular state.

I485 pending status does not entitle the person to Federal Financial Aid.
