I know this is a silly question, but I never buy these stuffs.
I just received an "immigrant visa application processing fee bill", and it stated "a cashier's check or money order in US dollars, drawn on a US bank, made payable to the Department of State with the case number written on the front of the check"
am I just go to any bank and buy it? I ask this question coz I am living in canada, and donno the bank has this service or not

I'm assuming any bank in Canada should have this service available, like in US. I don't know if they issue Cashier Checks in US $
Over here, you can buy a Money Order to the Post Office for less than $1.00, at WalMart for $0.45, etc.

Most banks in the US has this service, but cashiers checks cost $6 to $8 dollars, much better to use money order, because they are a lot cheaper.

"a cashier's check or money order in US dollars, drawn on a US bank, ..."

How can the money order be drawn on a U.S. bank if you get it from a bank in Canada? That could be a challenge, but I do not really know for sure.

yeah, they may want me to visit US and buy it from a US bank

anyway, I bought a money order from post office today, lets see whether they will return it or not

If it is in US $ shouldn't be any problem.

When i was in Antigua and I had to buy money orders to send to the US I told the bank teller that i was purchasing a money order in US dollars for x amounts. What they do is charge you in the equivalent currency of the country that you are in but on the check it should be in US dollars. MY two cents.
