Question about bank account in India

I apologize for posting this here but I did post this question in one of the other forums but due to lack of traffic I did not get many responses.

I have a couple of local bank accounts in India (not nri/nro/nre) which were funded with Indian rupees while I lived there. Also during my initial few years in the US I was still being paid a salary in India which was also deposited into one of these accounts.

My question - Do I need to do anything with these accounts before I become a US citizen ? I'm planning on applying for OCI as soon as I can.

Oci

I thought this question was already answered in the OCI forum in a thread started by you, the answer is no, you do not need to do anything with them, you can keep the accounts regardless of NRI vs. regular accounts.

There might be tax implications i.e. you need declare any income in India to IRS here and you may need to get a PAN number in india, if you need to pay taxes there. I am not certain about all the issues related to tax.

The responses I got seem to assume my bank accounts were NRI accounts which they are not. Or at least that's the impression I got.

The important thing (in terms of citizenship) is that you paid tax on your *worldwide* income while you were a permanent resident. That includes any money you might have made in India.

Thanks for all your responses, my concern is not about my citizenship application but about running into problems with Indian authorities.
