Greetings to all people,
I am currently filling out I485 form based on my granted asylum case. So, in part 8 Question #25 : Have you Ever been arrested, cited, charged, or detained for any reason by any law enforcement official (including but not limited to any U.S. immigration official or any official of the U.S. armed forces or U.S. Coast Guard)? Question# 26: Have you ever committed a crime of any kind (even if you were not arrested, cited ,charged with, or tried for that crime)?
Should I answer yes to both questions? I was arrested and detained in my home country because I hold different political opinions and spread informations the government doesn't allowed. That's also the reason why I applied for asylum.
Thanks to all of you.

This is just my personal opinion and what I would do in your shoes.

According to the form instructions you must say "Yes" if the arrest happened "anywhere in the world". Then you should use the extra space in part 14 to explain and provice evidence.

Also, I assume that in your asylum application, you have already explained the situation and reason of your arrest to the asylum officer which is why you were granted asylum probably due to a credible fear of persecution in your home country. Asylum officers write everthing down, so they already have records of that available.

I don't know if GC officers ever check with asylum officers, but for the sake of consistancy telling it as it happened seems like the best option.

I would consult with an experineced attorney though before making any decisions.
