Query regarding experience for EB-2/3

Hi! We were exploring the possibility of filing for GC through my wife's job. My wife has worked as a DBA with a university for past 3 years. Had a brief chat with a top immigration lawyer. He told us that all that experience was useless for filing a GC with same employer?? Is that true? Is there any way around it other than changing employers and then using this work experience? Does the state you work in matter or its a uniform thing? We are in NY state. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

True, the experience gained with the current employer CAN be shown for other employer/s regardless of state with or without switching employment.
