Queer H1 Renewal

My current H1 was up for renewal with a year and a half time left (until Jan 2008). My employer has also applied for my GC and the labor certification is still pending at the Dallas BEC close to two years. I just received my H1 approval notice and I-797 copy and now this shows that USCIS has extended my H1 to two and a half years (Jan 2009).

I am curious to know if this was a typo on their part or USCIS automatically grants that extra one year as a standard procedure since my labor has been pending for over one year.
 
It sounds the USCIS has granted the 7th year included in your regular H-1B extension. It’s normal. They did it right.
