Hi, I've been a GC holder for about a year now.
I just want to know...... if I go to any average tax preparer, is my filing process same as US citizens? or does it differ because I hold a GC (my wife is a USC though and we'll file jointly). I'm asking this because some tax preparers don't seem to be very knowledgeable sometimes and may not know what their doing if it's different than their average clients. I may also try to do it by myself on turbotax online possibly.... I heard one of my co-worker doing it for free online and it was simple but I just don't know if it will not be as simple as his because I'm not a USC.

I want to make sure that it is done properly because it would be part of my evidence when filing for permenant residency and also citizenship later on.

You file as resident and it is not different than a USC. Go ahead and use Turbo Tax. It is very user-friendly.

If you got your GC for the first time last year, and you had some non-US income, it could get complicated. Otherwise it should be no different than for USCs.
