Pushing out USC interview after fingerprinting

Does anyone happen to know if one can postpone the interview after getting fingerprints done?

We have FP date on mar 22nd but I am rethinking about getting US citizenship since India OCI does not have voting rights. I think without voting rights, the claim that OCI is Dual citizienship is handicapped. I want to continue to have voting rights in my country of birth.

SO I decided to wait until OCI gets voting rights (I believe it shoudl at sometime). Is it possible to get FP done & request delay in interview or we have no choice but to forfeit our N400 fee?

Should we even go for FP?

Also what do I stand to lose if I remain on GC but not takeup USC?

Quick response will be greatly appreicated since my FP date is next week.

Thanks. Is there a formal way to withdraw the N400 other than not showing up for FP? Is there a way to get back the $800 we paid (myself & my wife) for filing N400?

As an FYI... OCI is NOT a dual citizenship, and to get voting rights and provide true dual citizenship, a constitution amendment is required, which may be a while.

Just curious, if you are a PR in USA, how many times have you voted for Indian elections and how?

It is an application fee. You can't get it back.

I was in India between Dec and Jan when the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was held in Bangalore. The govt. has mentioned in that event that they will "consider" permitting voting rights for OCIs. I am sure it will be coming in the next few years as the NRI and expatriate community plays a more importatnt role in India's economy. My suggestion will be not to drop the N-400 app for the sake of something that may happen in the future. You don't want to get into a scenario while applying the second time where you have to answer too many questions regarding why you applied and withdrew. Also, given the state of the world, it may not get much easier with time to get a US citizenship.

As PR in USA you can not vote in Indian elections. Indian Govt. talked about giving NRIs (Indian passport holders) voting rights at PBD in January. Later on they added another condition that if these NRIs are present in their repective constituency in India during the election times, they can vote. A big deal...they don't want to talk about the absentee ballot system. In India, even the active duty military personnel cannot vote if they are NOT in the constituency on the election day!

Thanks guys for your inputs. Actually I am planning to move to India in near future (< 6 months) & that is why enquiring about voting rights. Also I beleive some schools & institutions charge higher Fees/different benefits if we do not have an Indian passport.

I was not aware ethat a PR cannot vote. Is this still the case even if that person is in his constiuency at the time of voting?

BTW I understand to keep my PR active while I am india I need to visit US every 6 months. I looked at getting N470 (extention for PR while outside US) but it seems to be limited to GOVT employees/special employers/religious people only. Any ideas if comign back for couple weeks every 6 months will work?
