I have a neighbor who is a trained psychologist specializing in online behavior and psychological profiling. She mostly consults online dating sites.
I asked her to read a few posts of -I don't wanna mention name - but he/she has two mammels in his/her username- and here's what she came up with:
- Definitely a male.
- Works in an environment where his opinion has little value.
- At least some of the posts written under the influence of subustance abuse.
- Comes from broken or dysfunctional family where he, as a child had little significance for parents. (e.g. an unwanted child who's told so explicitely).
- Has a perception of complete helplessness over his future/destiny.
- Desires to do something significant at whatever cost.
- In very rare and extreme case, it may result into a sensational crime with no apparent motive.
- His online behavior and people's responses (whether +ve or -ve) are _very_ cathartic to him. They prevent his further deterioration but unfortunately prevent improvement too.
The best remedy is to see a shrink but she suggested that the following steps taken by himself will result in improvement and can possibly cure if the patient has sufficient willpower:
- Reduce time spent online.
- moderate/stop the use of substances.
- Read biographies of great achievers (scientists/leaders/sportspersons).
- Work on forming closer bonds with extended family members.
- Increase socializing and develop skills in dealing with people (be patient as this is a slow process and patient may hae a huge learning curve).
- Make sure to get regular exercises.
- Don't hesitate to seek help.
Good Luck!
