I immigrated to USA IN June 2006. There upon I had to go to my country from 03 March 2007 till July 11, 2007 (4 months and 8 days). I went to my country to sell my property and to drop my mother who is a US citizen.

Again I had to go to my country from 02 Sept, 2008 to 21 May, 2009 (8 months and 19 days). I had to go this time to bring my ailing mother back to US. I applied for got the travel document which I never used.

My family (my wife and kids) remained in the US and I paid my tax (my wife filed a joined petition) and I paid my credit cards and loans during that time while I was away.

Thereafter,I have not been outside US. I have been out of US for a period of 373 days. My question is that can I apply for naturalization as I completed my tenure of 5 years this June. Secondly, what document do I need to show that my mother was sick as she accompanied me back to US.

Most likely you will not have issues. You have one trip which needs to be explained, but with your wife and kids remaining in US, it is a question of collating the right paperwork (house rent / mortgage, insurance, family declaration etc.). I do not think it should get into explaining your mother's health, but I guess such evidence can be provided if asked.

If you think you can explain the 8 month absence adequately, you can apply now. If that absence causes a breach in your continuous residence, you can apply 4 years + 1 day after your return (which is May 21, 2009 + 4 years + 1 day). If I were in your shoes, I will take the chance and apply now.

2 caveats:
Bringing your mother back does not require 8 months. You will need to explain that better ... if it was a case of a short trip which got extended, that will require good documentation.
Did you work abroad during your absence?

Go ahead and apply now, but you will need documentation to prove your ties to the US during that 8 month trip, such as school records and paystubs to show that your child and wife were in the US at that time, and your lease/mortgage documents during that period, and tax transcripts for returns that were filed during or after that 8 month trip.

No! I did not work abroad. My mother went with me in 2007 because I have a property in my country and she wanted to take care of it till sold. BUT unfortunately she got sick to the extent to get bed ridden and was unable to travel. Thats the reason that it took more time in 2009. I was anticipating it and I took the travel document with me which I never used. As you said "good documentation" is required, what documents you think will be required? As regards my family, 2 of my kids got naturalization the last year and this year.
