Proof of funds while landing

I'm planning to go to Canada in August as I've received my landing papers. Since I work on a contract basis here, I would not be able to move to canada immediately. I would want to visit canada, get my PR card etc and then come back. After my contract ends, I would like to move to canada permanently. Can i do that?
Also, can i show the proof of funds in a bank in US or should I be taking the amount in a form of check, draft etc ?

Please advise.

Could you tell us how much time it took after the medical exams.

I landed last week (Sat Jul 13th). I did not take any Cash/check/draft. US Bank statement should be enough for landing.

Btw, it took me around 3 months to get the papers after medicals, shiva.
