My sutiation is: I have GC 10/2002, I go to canada for working in 07/2005, but in this period of time( from 07/2005 to 06/2006), I am in and out between Canada & US, like every 3 months, went back to US just for the weekend, do I break the continuous residency?? I have one more year to file to become USC. I know I can file 3 months before the 5 years... it means 07/2007, should I come back to stay in US for good and file the N-400? Thanks

You'll probably be ok with the continuous residency as long as you can prove when you arrived & departed, but I wouldn't be surprised if you had to convincingly explain why you were working in Canada.

When it comes time to submit your N-400, you need 3 months residency in the district you wish to apply. Being physically present in the US for the entire N-400 process will probably make your life easier. For example, I was explicitly asked during the interview whether I had undertaken any foreign travel since submitting the N-400. The same question is also asked prior to the oath ceremony.
