Processing statistics for April'04 released - Things are getting better!

Highlights: (Since Sept 01)

1. I-485 processed is 101474 which is double the average of 50703.

2. Net decrease is highest so far within the period computed.

3. Overall pending has been decreasing for the 5th straight month.

What we can look forward to in "May" report and months ahead:

1. The receipt of new applications will decline sharply as people would have rushed to beat the April 30th fee increase deadline.

2. May approval cases from Rupnet and forum posts in other centers like CSC and TSC have been among the highest in recent memory.

3. I expect pending applications to come close to or dip below the million mark.

i like the fact that they processed 101,000 applications in April. If they really maintain this tempo for even 5 months, they can do a serious damage to the backlog. Wishful thinking, huh?
I do believe May is going to be better than April. It was evident from the approvals we saw just on this board itself.
 
Assuming INS keeps the approvals at a steady rate of around 100,000 approvals per month and the number of cases filed remains at the average of 57247 cases. Then with the current backlog it will take approximately 14 months to reduce the processing times to 1 year.

Either ways it overshoots Don Neufield's estimate of reducint backlog time to 12 months by October which is 4 months away.

It is difficult to predict trends with only a months data, so we need to wait for atleast 2 - 3 months before we can say for sure that they will meet their goal within 14 months.
 
I don't think maintaining the speed for 5 months is going to cut a lot, here are the numbers:
