Processing at American Embassy London

Had a question for anyone who's gotten their visa processed through the embassy in London. I had my interview yesterday for the J1 and the consular officer told me my visa application was refused pending further administrative processing (security clearance??). He said this did not mean my visa had been refused at this point in time, but it might take an undetermined amount of time to get approved.

Has anyone been through this recently, and if so, what sort of time period are we looking at? Also, my program has a compulsory orientation starting June 21...what sort of experiences have people had who don't get their visas in time but still do end up continuing at their chosen program?

as long as it takes


You could e-mail them (keep tone nice) to explain your situation to see if they can or will do anything

It might be a blessing if they refuse it this year....DON'T COME ON A J1!!!!!!! DO whatever you can to get an H1, if you want to continue to stay here. You can't imagine what a pain it is to be on a J1 later.
