Process for giving up GC and its future implications

My mother got GC 3 years back and has been staying out on the 2yr permit since over one year. Due to personal reasons it looks highly unlikely that she can come back to US within the 2 year period of the permit. I want to know what is the process to give up GC and convert to B1/B2 visitor visa again, and whether it will be tough or not to get visitor visa. Also, if several years later we decide to apply for her GC again, will it affect that future GC application in any negative way?

Thx in advance.

File form I-407 at a US consulate to officially surrender the GC (and the reentry permit, in this case). Once the GC has been officially and voluntarily surrendered, it's easy to get a B1/B2 visa since the voluntary surrendering of it is a strong indicator of not having the intent to live in the US. She can even surrender the GC and apply for a B1/B2 in the same consular visit.

If you decide to petition for her GC again in the future, the GC surrendering won't have a negative effect. However, she should preserve vital information related to the GC such as her A#, the issue date and surrender date of the green card, and her SSN because some of that will be requested in the GC paperwork and/or interview.
