Hi, friends !!

I got my green card in NOV,2002. So, when I gonna get eligibility to filing for citizenship? I heard like 3 months before 5 years expiry period of GC..is that correct?
and what is the first step and whole process..?
IF I file now, when I gonna get it approximately. I am sft engineer in USA.

There is tons of information you can find on this forum just by looking around. In any case you should be eligible to apply right now (or shortly) based on the exact date when you became a permanent resident. If you use the 3 months before 5 years criteria, give at least a 10 day buffer because the rule actually says 90 days instead of 3 months.

Also all this is assuming you satisfy the continuous residence and physical presence requirements (that is you haven't been outside the US for long periods for any reason during the last 5 years).

The whole process is very straight-forward compared to getting a green card. You file the N-400 form (you can do it by yourself without having to consult a lawyer). The steps are 1) Fingerprinting within a month of applying 2) interview where your application will be reviewed in your presence and you will be given a simple English & Civics test 3) Oath ceremony which is when you actually become a citizen.

The whole process takes about 7-8 months on the average. It really depends on which district office you come under. Some DOs are faster than others. Again all this is assuming that your case doesn't get stuck in background checks. If that happens, all bets are off and it may take years for your case to be approved.

Thanx for that good info friends !!

On my Green card, it says.."PERM RESIDENT from 11/29/02"
So, I gonna good to file by this month 29. But definitely I will wait for next month first or sec week.
I am in Charlotte, NC, so which DO it belongs to?
I will keep open this communication thru out my process and started gathering info & doc's..
