your company can sponser you for an H-1, however there is a cap of the number of H-1s per year and that cap for fiscal year 2007 was reached a few months ago. the cap for fiscal year 2006 was reached over a year ago.
you can wait until the new fiscal year starts (oct1) and then then your company can apply for an H-1 for you to start work in fiscal year 2008 (starts Oct 1, 2007)
if you can be sponsered for a green card, it might be a better option. otherwise your best option might be to pray for the immigration reform bill to pass Congress.
