procedure after approval

Ok, so preparing for the inevitable (hopeful)!

What happens (or should be done) after approval if one happens to be residing in a different state (say TX) than the one applied for in 140/485 (say CA).

I heard that one has to move to CA or at least somehow show residence in CA, pay state tax in CA etc for at least a few months.

Would appreciate some light on this or pointers?

TIA.

If you moved permanently and TX is your primary residence, you are supposed
to inform your change of address (form AR-11) within 10 days of moving. Also you need to fax the change of address form to CSC (if your I485 is here). This is not AR-11 form and you will get a template in the attached document (csc2003.pdf). If you get approved, you can get stamped in the nearest TX office (even if your I485 gets approved from CSC).

If your primary residence is still in CA and your employer sent you to TX for few months/years for a project, in that case you don't need to come back to CA. Here primary residence means you have a property in CA and USCIS can reach you by mail using that address. In this case you can get stamped either coming to CA, or in the nearest TX USCIS office.

On the other hand, lots of people don't want to transfer their I485 to another regional service center as that might delay the whole processing (sometimes they transfer, sometimes they don't). They provide their friend or relative's CA address to USCIS. I don't know how reliable and legal that is. In this kind of situation, if the USCIS officer gets doubtful about your residence they can ask your paystub, W2 or proof address (utility bills, rental agreement, mortgage paperworks) to find out your "exact location". But I never heard any case of pursuing this type of issue that strongly by USCIS. But I may be wrong.

Thanks Pralay.

Since I've never moved out of CA (have always been in TX, and planning to be for the foreseeable future), I suppose AR11 is not applicable to me. And at this late stage in my processing I really don't want to transfer my case to TX (for no apparant reason).

What I'm concerned about is, what's to be done (if anything) after the approval. Do we have to show residence in CA or ...

Anyway, thanks again for your response.

PS: in RFE currently, FP2 done
EAD3 & AP2 approved last week (took 1.5 months only!)
