Hello, I just accepted a job offer and when I went for the initial start date, they asked for establishing employment. Ofcourse I showed my drivers license and UNRESTRICTED SSN CARD..however the person in charge would keep on saying "I Need a Green Card"...I filled an I-9 form with that and showed him but he keeps on saying "need a green card."...What shall i do? He is an ex military and very rude(hr person)...I have also produced I-94 showing work authorization.

The thing is i have accepted this position and quit my other job..How should i handle this? HOw do i explain to this dork that this is waht is required. HE said "he would check and we will talk again at work tommorow" but i know he is a jerkface..

Anyone have any printouts or anything from offical DHS where this situation is explained?...The thing is this is a government job and I had told them I wasn't a u.s citizen which they didnt need..they just verification of employment...what shall i do?

I-9 form is all you need.

Here is the link http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/i-9.pdf
There is a list of acceptable documents and what you have already shown him is enough.
He cannot require you to present something else just because he doesn't like it.
Here is also a link that defines what are your responsibilities and rights as well as his responsibilities. http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/faqeev.htm By the way, he is responsible to be familiar with law and not make one by himself.
There is a section that talks about discrimination and the government agency that sanctions such cases (like when they request something outside of law requirements, like in your case.

Best regrads,
Alex

wantmygcnow, i will post a similar situation i had 2 months ago. i am in a hurry now, i will post it in 2 or 3 hours

Immigration counsel(DEPARTMENT OF STATE)

You can call the department of state, civil justice division.I have had a similar experience with my school.Once you call them there is actually a very helpful man called dimitry,he will sort them out.

Ok, 2 months ago, i had a similar situation, the manager (former Army officer too), called me to his office and told me that today is my last day (after 2 weeks on the job). I asked him why, he said that i do not have EAD, my SS was restricted, I asked him to read the USCIS memo. he printed out and read it, he waa convenced, he took it to the HR, the next day, he came to me and told me everything is ok now, one month later i received my EAD and gave it to the HR. when I receive my unrestricted SS, i will go personally to the HR and give it to them and ask them to destroy the EAD copy, so they don't ask me for it again. here is the Memo

good luck

The Department of Justice, Division of Civil Rights, has an office dedicated to this kind of issues. Call them and you can actually talk to a government attorney who will do her best to help you. Generally one phone call from her to the employer will solve the problem.
