Problem with new BC?

Need some advice from you... may lawyer confused me... totally!

My lawyer says getting a new Birth certificate issued is not acceptable to INS these days. (My birth was registered with the municipality in 1974, though)... has any one of you issued new birth certificate for 485 and used it?

Please let me know your experiences... I need to decide about this pretty soon...

As long as it is certified as being a genuine copy, it should be ok.
Heck my original BC does not even have my name on it! But I did have other items like affidavict from parents and high school report card with DOB on it. Had no problems at all.
 
So what you are saying is - even if I re-issue a new birth certificate now, INS does not object that the certificate *has* to be issued at the time of the birth? I am really confused because my lawyer is saying that we must submit a copy of the certificate which was issued at the time of the birth - since INS believes in that older copy more.

What did the rest of the people do? Has anyone here submitted a newly issued birth certificate copy for 485? Please reply... I am totally confused... I am hoping that this forum will provide me the inputs to take this decision.

P.S. My birth was registered in 1974; I will just be reissuing a new copy of the birth certificate.

In general, I have asked for experiences of people who have gone through this. Could you please also comment on this? That would be very useful.
