I am applying for my Citizenship next month. I have a question on the 5 year employment history.

Company-A applied for my green card, but company-A closed in July 2001 and laid off all employees. Fortunately I got employment in company-B using my EAD, and in the same type of position and in the same geographical area.
I have got my GC in Oct 2001., and continued to work in company-B using the GC.

So when I provide the 5 year employment history( July 2001- Oct-2006) company A which applied for my GC does not come in the list. Will this be a problem ?
Thanks for your help

There is no employment based category for the naturalization application. Therefore it is imperative that USCIS does base their judgment on any employment related information at any point of the naturalization process unless there is a special case of fraud and forgery.

Where have you seen USCIS asking for employment information and why are you worried about it?

work information for 5 years

Thanks takadigi for your answer.
I was referring to the Part -6 -"Information about your residence and Employement" in the N-400 form ; where we are supposed to provide where we resided and worked for last 5 years.

Do you mean to say while processing the Citizenship N-400 form, USCIS will not care from which employer I got the green card ? and see whether I worked for the same employer for a while after getting the GC ?.

Thanks,

I think it is anybody's guess what you might be asked during the interview. I would consider that if you're worried about this you might delay applying for citizenship for a few months or a year or so. Thus you would put more distance between company A and you. Most likely nothing will happen if you apply when eligible, even if company A doesn't show in your N-400. Worst comes to worse you'll have to explain this during the interview if asked. There has been a lot of talk over the years about how long one has to work for employer and all that. I never saw clear proof of trouble for leaving early. In your case there was a lay off. I would say you're ok, but that's my opinion. Again, if it makes you more comfortable you can wait a few months or a year to apply and perhaps you avoid questions during interview, but still I would think this is not necessary. I hope someone with a similar experience as yours chimes in with an opinion.

My 2 cents.

Thanks Huracan

I think I am too much worried for nothing. I will just apply and hope there will not be any issues. In any case I will carry my lay off letter and the bankrupcy papers of company-A at the time of interview.
Thanks

Part III of the USCIS adjudicator's handbook does specifically mention correlating N-400 employment history with employment-based GC application, to verify the applicant did work for their sponsoring company, however I think you'll be fine if you take the layoff letter along to the interview.

Thanks boatbod

I read the Part III you mentioned in your reply, and I will be well prepared with the lay off and bankrupcy papers while going for the interview. I hope I will not face any issues.
Thanks again
