Priority Date retention issue

I have a priority date from a previously approved I-140. I have started my GC process again from scratch since I had to shift companies. Do I need to fight for the retention of priority date at the time of filing my labor under the PERM process or I can get labor cleared and then during the filing of I-140 fight for the retention of my old priority date.
