Priority Date Not Current, RFE received

Hello All,
Above are my details. What I don\'t understand is, if my priority Date is not current then, what is the use of this RFE and FP? I think it\'s a long way to go for me as the current PD for EB3 is Sep 97. I would appreciate any inputs from any Gurus over here. My Lawyer told me that RFEs are usually issued proir to Adjudication. She says that this RFE means that an officer is looking at your case. But why should he look at my case when I am not current at all?????
Please enlighten me.

No Title

This is not un-usual. I got RFE though my PD was not current. It just means that INS will complete prelimnary processing of your I-485 and will wait for the availability of visa number(ie. PD to become current). INS will do everything but approve your I-485 if your PD is not current.

PD : 07/1997
RD : 08/1999
ND : 09/1999
FP : 07/2000
RFE received : 11/2000
RFE replied : 12/2000

Now my PD is current and INS may approved soon if I am lucky! Keeping my finger crossed!
