Hi,
I had to travel outside the country for H1 stamping and got stuck due to admin processing. My I140 is approved and my priority date is also going to be current any time now. My employer has transferred my payroll to India office with an assurance to transfer me back once i get my H1. My question is once my PD become current can I file my I485 from outside US something like an I 824? If not then what happens to my PD? Does my GC case become invalid and I have to start all over again? Does my India payroll have any affect on my case status(I had filed for GC when I was on US payroll).
I would really appreciate if someone could answer the questions above since I have gone through a lot of forums and I am yet to see a similar case.

Thanks

You cannot file I-485 outside the US. But green card process can be transferred outside the US to a consulate by filing I-824. Then a few months later once they have processed the transfer you can file DS-230 to get a GC interview at the consulate a few months later (if/when your priority date becomes current).
