As per CNN president will address nation at 8:00 PM EST on monday and will talk about the immigration reforms.
Don't get excited guys. I am sure he is going to talk about illegal immigration not the legal immigration.

Good Luck to all.

Cnn

President is going to focus solely on illegal immigration.

CNN has number of programs relating to immigration issues before the speech from 7 pm to after LArry King live.

Media comments that he should not talk much about the guest-worker/amnesty program, but rather focus to talk about deploying the National Guard along the border attempting to satisfy conservatives.

The Chimperor is trying to get his rating up. Just a snow job for the mid-term elections.

If he tries to sell the idea that what he is asking is not amnesty, I think his approval rate will sink even further. I hope he can come with something very creative there.

I think that the President is playing smart politics here. See the House has passed the "Border Security Only" package as their version of immigration reform. Last week the Senate came up with the compromised bill amongst the senators that absorbs the Maccain/Kennedy bill and other provisions. Bush knows that if he wants to get his beloved immigration bill then he will have to throw some bones to the barking hardliner conservative house memebers. So he is describing this speech as a very big immigration thing where he will show the people that he is stopping the illegals at the border as well as doing something for the illegals here.

I think if those barking people as well as the people in general gets his speech and shows positive support for the speech then it will be very helpful for us. Why ? Here is what i think : Once the public starts supporting his ideas then administration will press the conservatives in the house opposing the bill when it reaches the conference commity for the compromise. If the house republicans wants to see some seats in the November election they have to show the people that they did something good in congress and not just sat there and stamped all the bills white house wanted. Once this cycle is in place no one can stop this immigration reform.

S :) o from all these political activity I AM HAPPY !

Certainly that is what he is trying to do. Whatever he says I think needs to be sincere - what I doubt - otherwise just playing politics, at 29% approval rate, may be a little risky. Perhaps that wouldn't convince too many at this point and actually could backfire. Less and less people trusts him. Lou Dobbs, Michelle Malking and others will be there waiting to analyze whatever he says and put the word out there. So far tactics such as disguising "amnesty" by "earned legalization" hasn't fooled too many people for example.

Why are you so happy with the current proposal knowing that it would increase our visa numbers from 140K to 150K a year ? Ah, you expect that the visa recapture provisions could take the EB veterans out of this mess, I guess ?

My Take

Visa Recapture, STEM provisions, ???spouse exemptions, and 135K for skilled workers sounds better than a part of the current 140K visas. There are definitely some provisions in there for skilled workers as well. I am not saying this is the way I would design it but the the way this crappy system works.............if it helps us we ought to support it. Justice and fair play have long been left out of this system.
As for those who are concerned about the US becoming a 3rd world country, well it is the globalisation trend which started nearly 2 decades ago that is to blame. These are the symptoms of this problem.

His speech is a repetition of what he already said in previous speeches... just that the 6000 National Guard deployment is something new.
Bah!

His speach disappointed me ....

da..... all for illeagals, nothing for leagals who live in this country for years. So, if you are illeagal and crossed 5 years you can straight get citizenship???? What you call this? Cheating the leagals. Sucking us to the maximum and finally F****ng us back ??? No end to this cheating....

Did you pay attention?

mamamiax,

Looks like you missed the part when he said positive about legal people

"People who meet these conditions should be able to apply for citizenship, but approval would not be automatic, and they would have to wait in line behind those who played by the rules and followed the law," Bush said.

So it means even though illegal may be considered for becoming USC but they would have to stand back in the line.. :) :)

I don't get it...

==> Is this means they can bypass GC process and apply directly for citizenship???

It's simple

What Bush tried to say, all the illegal will stand behind the people who are following the legal path. We are the one who are following the lagal path..so we will get the GC first and then Illegal.. :)

guys....that was just a political speech.....it was by no means text of a bill to be implemented.......and there was nothing new except that finally they are arranging resources for the obvious border security(it is still insufficient....but thanks to iraq war....a baby of bush....there are not much people left for anything else...)

Same old rethoric

Please, don't be so naive. Back in the line now, but when the time comes for this 11-20+ million apply for the greencard, they will compete against legal people anyway. Hopefully I will be out of the system by then one way or the other (who knows), but in the future millions of illegal aliens may well hurt future employment based greencard applicants as never seen before. Moreover, in the short-term they would require a documentation such as kind of EAD. Notice that has potential to consume resources from USCIS and delay the process to many of us in the short-term. Remember that it is just talking and no planning. Anything can happen here.

His speech contained nothing new. Deploying 6,000 troop is just a symbolic act, especially when the soldiers are not allowed to aprehend people. In order to effectively secure the boder it is estimated that he would need 36,000 men in the Mexico-US border alone. Virtual fences will give him virtual results.

If officials continue with the idea of pleasing folks who came here illegally to satisfy business they will never find a true solution. That is the problem. Only a president and congress who gives priority to solve the problem from the US perspective interests can get this right. Just because one charges a mere $2,000 and make you one wait in the line five years to apply for GC that doesn't change the nature of amnesty. We the employment based folks have been thru an ordeal 10 times more drastic than that and we get nothing, no amnesty in the front or in the back of line, and we need to keep an employer to sponsor our GC thing.

we all might be good if illegal get behind in the line but there will not be any future EB visas. Another bad thing is Immigration Attorney's will have nothing to do. :p

The bill does have some positive provisions for legals

Hello,
I personally believe that forums like these benefit more when people exchange information & facts (from their attorneys & trusted news sources). Personal views, negative comments and bad language benefits no one. So let's all be positive and support each other rather than fuel the uncertainity we're all feeling these days anyway! :(

I am sharing here some information I read on provisions / text in the immigration reform bill with regards to legals (employment-based)

-------------------------------------------------------
Sec. 501. Elimination of Existing Backlogs
- Section 501 would more than double the ceiling on employment-based visas from 140,000 to 290,000. And it would exempt spouses and children of employment-based immigrants from the limits.
- Section 501 would provide for the recapture of both family-based and employment-based visas that go unused because of processing delays.

Sec. 502. Country Limits
- Section 502 would increase per-country ceilings for both employment-based and family-based immigrant visas.

Sec. 503. Allocation of Immigrant Visas
- Section 503 would redistribute the 290,000 employment-based visas, making modifications to the categories with more demand.
------------------------------------------------------

Of course, many of these may not make it into the final passed version. But its good to know that they are there.

Personally I am not relying on or expecting this to become law anytime soon. But for anyone waiting for their PD to become current, this along with the movement (although slow) of the PDs in the last few months - is atleast something - which is better than nothing! :)

Dru,
I like the positive spin that you have put on things and it certainly brightens things up a bit for people who have been in line for close to 5 years (like me). But we all must remember the past. This is the same man that looked people in the eye and told them that if the USA did not attack Iraq, then Iraq might attack the USA pretty shortly. And he did this to his own people. 19 year old kids are getting killed becuase of whatever, maybe they got the intellegence wrong or maybe the oil companies needed new oil avenues or maybe it was to settle a score for daddy or the saudi friends. If this guy can do this to his own people who put him in office, dont be naive that he'll suddenly have a change of heart and look out for your interest. Dont get depressed about this whole thing. My strategy is hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.Just my two cents ...
