Preserving green card status for new green card holder

Brief Synopsis:
---------------
This is in regard to my parents green card. My parents just went through a green card interview last week at Bangladesh, and they have been accepted and their passport stamped. They are planning to come here on a survey mission in the US on June.

However they will not be able to stay here for more than 3 weeks. My dad has a job and property and the matters will take atleast 1-2 years.

1. What can be done so as to maintain their permanent residency status during this time so that they can finally move here in the next 1-2 years?

2. What needs to be done immediately after their arrival in the United States?

3. Do you think they should stay here a little longer than 3 weeks when they come here on June?

Note: My parents got their green card because my uncle(father's brother) applied for the 13 years earlier.

Any help in this matter will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Shaikh

Your parents can apply for a re entry permit (form i-131), before going back home. Re-entry permit is valid for 2 yrs from the day it is granted. I guess they don't have to stay any longer than 3 weeks , as long as they would mail their application fro re-entry permit before leaving US.
Hope this helps
