(1) Does a Green Card allow admission to the US after travel exceeding no more than 6 months or no more than 1 year?
(2) This following question assumes that the answer to question 1 above is 6 months:
I have heard that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) expects aliens who have been approved for legal permanent resident (LPR) status to reside permanently in the United States, and that an alien in LPR status who remains outside the U.S. for more than six months breaks the continuity of residence that is required to meet the residency requirement for becoming a U.S. citizen.
QUESTION: Does this mean:
(A) that a GC-holder only has to physically be present a few days every 6 months for 5 years, before they are eligible to become a citizen, OR
(B) that a GC-holder has to physically be present in the US for a considerable minimum period of time on the order of years, AND NOT just a few days every 6 months for 5 years, before they are eligible to become a citizen?
(3) If an employee of American corporation “X” is assigned abroad for work for corporation “X”, then can the employee simply return to the US every 6 months in order to maintain the continuity of residence that is required to meet residency requirement for becoming a US Citizen? Why go through the headache of filing N470s and applying for Reentry permits?
