Preparing for passport stamping at the Phoenix INS center

I-485 was approved on Apr 8th and rec\'d my approval notices in mail on Apr 11th.

My wife is currently in India, lawyer suggested that I should get my passport stamping done (as I am planning to travel to India too) without waiting for my wife to come back. Once I am done with my stamping and when we are coming back I can show my I-551 stamp on the passport and my wife can use her AP to reenter and then get her stamping done. If the INS officer at the POE decides to write "Deferred Inspection" on her AP then I need to worry about other things I guess, but I felt comfortable after reading posts from other people with similar situation.

1. Anybody see anything obviously wrong with the situation? Please let me know.

2. Has anybody waited ~3 months after receiving approval notices to get their I-551 stamp in their passport??

3. At the Phoenix INS, can we ask for an appointment on a specific date or do they go by an order?

4. Another dumb question, do they take a picture of you when you go for your stamping? (In addition to the two photographs we take)
Please help me find answers to these questions.
Thanks in advance!

Some comments

With the approval notice your stauts is "almost" officially adjusted to Permanent Resident. I wrote "almost" because the I551 stamp would, to my non-lawyer knowledge, mean theat you are "fully" adjusted. So that you don\'t complicate matters, I go along with your lawyer\'s suggestion that you get stamped before you leave so that you officially come back as a Permanent Resident of the USA when.

As for your question #4, would there be any problem for you (or your wife) if they had to take another photo of you at INS during stamping of I551? BTW, other than the required 2 ADIT photos, they didn\'t take any photo of me when I went for my stamping.

Congrats, and good luck . Please update Easy realtime Tracker at ..

This will help others in line, System has auto email feature, which sends out e-mail when you post your info with approval, to those who are waiting in your RD month.
Again thanks and enjoy

my experience at Phoenix

I dont think you can choose the date of appointment .They will issue an appointment approximately 10-15 days in the future. I had gone there around 20th March and was asked to come back on the 3rd of April.
They do not take your picture at the INS. You should carry the the two ADIT style fotos with you. In case there is a problem with the fotos ( my wife\'s fotos did since she had a couple of strands of hair over her ear) there is a foto place right across the street ( that takes cash only ;) ) where you can get fotos quickly.

thanks for the information

Do you know of anybody who has gone for passport stamping without an appointment?? I have read somewhere on this forum that you can showup early in the morning (5am or so) and you might be able to get your stamping done the same day.

Thanks again for the info.
