Pregnant

Hello.

I am gonna apply a green card for my wife. My currently is a green card holder. I also apply for a citizenship. I will become a citizen in about 4 to 5 months.

My question is: should I turn in I 130 as a permanent residence now, and then I inform USCIS after I become the US citizens to upgrade my case?

OR. should I turn in I 130 after I become the US citizen?

Which path is faster? My wife is from China. The F2A is longer than most countries.

My wife is pregnant and going to give birth in September. I want them to come to the US together as fast as possible.

Can you please help me analyse my situation?

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

How certain are you that you will naturalize before the birth. Will you be able to pass on US citizenship to your baby if it is born after you naturalize?
it’s more complicated if you need a green card for the child as well (there are different considerations here for spouse of a green card holder, where baby can be derivative on your wife’s petition, or spouse /child of citizen where baby will need its own petition/green card).

(scroll down to “In wedlock to a U.S. citizen parent and a parent who is not a U.S. citizen”)

(Edit: the above link is to getting a CRBA In China, not sure why it shortesn into ”technical difficulties“)

If the child will be a US citizen under the above factors, there is no concern with filing for your wife as soon as possible to get the petition in the system and upgrading from F2A to CR1/IR1 when you naturalize. If the child won’t be a USC it will probably be logistically easier to wait until you naturalize and then file I130s for both of them at the same time.
