PR vs GC

I am a little confused , if *possible* I would like to keep my Canadian PR along with GC, visit canada etc using PR. Someone mentioned that one needs to to submit one of the PR's at the POE, if true then this is a mute point. Has anyone successfully maintained Canadian PR along with US GC? The reason I want to do this is so that I can sponsor my parent's PR for Canada, there is obviously no chance of that in US in the near future.

Any pointers on this?

Bottomline: Has anyone done this before? i.e. maintain Canadian PR to eventually get Canadian citizenship at the same time holding on to US GC?

Yes one can have both GC for certain time.

I got first USA GC and after 2 months I landed in Canada and having Candian PR also.

By the way, Canada also takes 3 years for parent sponsering. while if you have USA GC then After 5 years of USA GC, you can be citizen and your parent can come to USA also in 6 months.

I would be really really careful of this. Please remember that the US still has an issue of "INTENT" re: your place of residence. The onus is on the PR to prove that he/she did not intend to abandon residence when he/she accepted the residency of another country.
Canada on the other hand has an objective measure. 3 yrs out of 5. There is no issue of INTENT anymore.

If you take up Canadian residency AFTER you become a LPR is the US , you may have a really hard time whenever BCIS decides to look at your file for whatever reason - citizenship, AR21, whatever. So you will be on the hook not just when you cross the border but for a LONNNNG time to come.


My 2c? This is MOST inadvisable if you are interested in retaining your US LPR status.
