PR Question --- staying out of Canada for more then 2 years!

Hi Guys,
I landed Canada around 2003 and came back to USA.
I guess I have to stay there for 2 years [within 5 years] to keep my residancy status but what if I go there after 4 years? Would I have to re apply for the PR or I could stay there?
Can you point me to right thread or website where I can get that info?

Hi Rim,

If you do not fulfill the residency requirement then your permanent resident status will be cancelled and you will have to apply for immigration once again if you want to return to Canada.
