PR cards mailed before passport stamping

Hi,

My wife and I recently got our I-485 approvals and we are yet to get our passports stamped at the local INS office. The USCIS web-site, however, says that our permanent residency cards have already been mailed. Is it possible to get the permanent residency cards without getting the passport stamps?

Folks,

I know this sounds weird, but we just received our PR cards and we are yet to get our passports stamped since we got our I-485 approvals.

Our lawyer was equally surprised as this was the first time she saw such an incident.

In any case, I am not complaining.
