PR Card

Hi,
Can anyone confirm whether one can visit US without PR card after landing? If PR card takes 45 days, does that mean one cannot move out of Canada till then? What if my friend in Canada receives my PR card and mails me in US and I try to enter Canada with that.?
Anyone with this kind of experience?
Thanks

followup question for Ray

Ray,

I was told by a CIC phone agent that if i landed before the rules changed (and had left Canada before the rules changed), then the old rules apply and i will lose my status.

The odd thing is that there is no clear way to extend my stay outsied Canada (or for anyone that landed in 2002) as they have abolished the returning resident permit.

Do i need to visit Canada for a weekend before the 6 months expire ?

This seemed relevant to the earlier question on PR cards and travel, hence the post.

Thanks,

I was told by another agent that the new rule applies to me so i think it should be safe.

***If you landed before June 28 then your Landing paper is NOT stamed as " Not Valid for Travel" and you can come to Canada any time.
If you landed after June 28 your Landing Paper will be stamped " Not Valid for Travel" it means that you can not go to Canada by Air , Bus, Train but with friend car you can cross the border and if applied your PR card and still not recieved PR card then you can leave Canada, once your PR card is recieved by your relative/friend in Canada he/she can mail it to you.

** You can move

**8 NO Problem with that, Only Passports can not be mailed out

For RAY.S
you do not need a PR card to travel
to Canada until December of 2003 use your proof of landing
document.
***
You need PR card to travel to Canada if you landed after june28, if landed before that they do not have Stamp " Not Valid for travel" they can travel with out Card, but after December 31, 2003 everyone will need PR card for travel to Canada, if some one is still out of Canada and have not applied PR card In Canada one can apply for "one time Travel Document" from Canadian Conulate in your home countary.

For can_help
