PR and right to work in the US

Folks,
This may sound like a dumb question but I have to ask
I know for a fact that a Canadian resident does not need to apply for a visa to visit the US but
does the resident need to apply for a H-1 (lke everyone else) to work there?

Yes.

Only Citizens of canada can work without H1.
But they also have to get a TN VIsa (which takes a day to get and is much simpler than H1).
