Hi there -
I just recently became a Canadian citizen. My wife and kids are only permanent residents - they landed later. We are all moving to the US for the next few months (years?).
Am I correct that they will retain their permanent resident status for as long as they are acompanied by a Canadian citizen, i.e., days that a permanent resident spends abroad with a Canadian citizen count as days of physical presence in Canada? (For PR purposes, not citizenship purposes)
Also, there is no residency requirement for children. Could I apply for Canadian citizenship for my children (both under 12 years) via mail? Would they just mail the citizenship certificate, or would the children have to pick it up personally? There is no oath required, as far as I know.
