PP Re-stamping Experience at San Jose

See my earlier posts for a background.

Got to INS San Jose, CA at 2:10am. Was probably 25th in line. About 20 poeple were sleeping in makeshift beddings.
Door opened at 7am, got in at 7:20am and got sequence ticket #12. My turn came at 8am. Came out of the office at 8:45am.

Here is the interesting part:
The Immigration Officer looked up in the computer and told us that the green card was mailed last year by Nebraska Service Center (out I-485 was processed at VSC) and asked us to fill out I-90 form (replacement of lost card). She mentioned that she is going to request waiver of fee ($115?) and unless the service center comes back with an order to pay the fee, we won\'t have to pay anything. I quickly grabbed the form from the information window, filled it out and came back to the window. The lady had meanwhile disappeared and returned after 20 minutes.
She accepted the form, got the index finger print, got the two photos we had brought along (luckily) and also stamped the passport with a 6-month validity stamp (identical to the green-card stamp). Once again she promised that a card will be mailed in about 3 months.
Moral of the story:
Take the following documents with you:
1. Filled I-90 form
2. At least two photos
3. Copy/Original/Courtesy Copy of Approval Notice (optional)
4. Enough money ($200) or your check book
5. ...and of course, some form of ID

That applies to I485 cases processed by San Jose

I didn\'t have any appointment letter from INS San Jose, and most people whose cases are approved by Service Centers do not either.

So...I guess that it doesn\'t apply to many of us.
