I am in a consulting job and will be travelling a lot.

Option 1: Can I use my friends address on my pending I-485. What are the cons of doing so?

Option 2: If option 1 is no good, can I use a get a PO BOX from my local post office as my address. What is immigration department's view on such addresses.

Some of my mail from immigration says "Return Service Requested" and some don't. Will mail forwarding work with immigration letters.

You can use a PO Box address for mailing purpose. You will still need a residential address. If you are completely living in a hotel, then you should ideally give an address from or close to the city where your employer is located. If you are doing like 6 month projects in different places and renting apartments, then you give the apartment address by calling USCIS and keep a PO Box. That way all the USCIS mail comes to PO Box, you wont risk loss of mail during a move.

Thanks GC Virus. I need a clarifaction - You said keep an apartment and inform the USCIS of the PO BOX number. If I have a PO BOX number then why would I have to keep an apartment (if I am living in hotels)

Wouldn't my address be:

Town near Employer
State, USA

Are there risks in providing my friends address.

USCIS takes PO Box only for mailing address.

You have to first give a regular address before giving PO Box as Mailing Address. You just cant give PO Box address.
