Postal jobs while AOS pending... ????

Is it possible to apply for postal jobs while my AOS is pending ? I know they ask to be citizen or green card holder. I am none of that yet, of course, but does my A# allows me to apply ??
Thanks for any input.

Ema.

No dear, you must have your EAD with you plus apply for your SSN and this is with any kind of job. You should have first authorization to work.

Good luck,

Wait, wait... I have my EAD and SSN of course !! :)
I know I have to have these docs to work, but my question is : as an alien with AOS pending, is it possible to apply for those kind of jobs ?

Ema.

I thought you had all those too from other posts...hehehe.
Well, for whatever job you can apply as far you have your documentation on rule. There are some jobs that you can't apply if they say especifically that you MUST be a GC holder (like show me the card!) or have US citizenship...Let me check out the postal site, do you have it at handy?

Ema, I got you. Okay the answer is no. Sorry.
The USPS is consider federal so you must have already a status of LPR.

Good luck,

Thanks ! Postal jobs seems to be good opportunities. I guess I'll have to wait until I get my GC !! :D

With an EAD you can only work in your profession ONLY.
Is that how it is? I was under the impression that you could work any job that is willing to hire you....maybe I was wrong....

Yes, I am positive. For example, I am software engineer and I got EAD through my wifes GC process. I can not work at McDonalds or Burger King. But I can work as software professional for any employer using EAD and that is what I am doing,

Wrong.it seems you are a derivative and your wife is 'primary'.
If so,Being a derivative, there is no restriction on any employment/who ever allows. You may not work also.it's your choice. So go and work in McD/Burg if you wish.

If you do not believe that is fine. Talk to an attorney before you take any step.

Go to USCIS website and see you will the FACT.....

Can you tell where in the USICS website you saw this information? Since you claim you read this from the USCIS website, I would like to verify before i tell you that you are wrong.

EAD- what kind of jobs you can do?

The discussion has veered off topic but hopefully wil also give some more answers to those who have similar questions.
There seem to be bit of controversy about what kind of job you can do with your EAD.
Let me explain....

What kind of work solely depends on what the EAD is based on.

As for example:
If its family based c(9) category for example, you CAN work any type of jobs. You can work however, wherever you wish to ( as long as the job does not ask for greencard or citizenship)

Other example:
If its an opt or student based your employment HAS to be specific to your area of expertise. Which means you CANNOT work wherever you like to. You cannot work as a janitor if you are a software engineer even if you want to

P.S Having received both kind of EAD's I am writing form personal experience.

And also please make sure you are sure when you write a reply.......and if not be kind enough to mention that.
