Post doctoral fellowship - EB1

Hey guys,

I have a good chance of getting a post-doctoral research fellowship (H1-B) at a very good university. It is in Dermatology, I have to commit a two year verbal agreement to stay with them for the research. They might help me get a residency thereafter.

I have a M.D. from India in the same field.

If they allow me, can I apply for a Green Card under EB-1 category. Will this qualification be sufficient to qualify me under EB-1 ?

I understand from them that if I have a green card, then I have better chances of securing Residency with them after two years.

Your input would be much appreciated.

Thanks much.

Hi

Hi
Do u have any publications? Did u pass all the steps including step 3? If you do not have good publications and in good quantity in peer reviewed journal I would not bother with EB1 or EB2 either. What does derm have to offer in national interest? You might know better considering what kind of research you do. Best advise is to go for residency asap without wasting time as postdoc. All that matters at end is what you want. If you can get in a program on an H1 (with step 3) or even a J1 (can get waiver later) is still okay. Forget derm if scores an not extraordinary even with research but in this country anything is possible if you have the will to go against the tide. Good luck.

Shiv, Thanks for your reply.

I don't have any publications in USA yet. I have some in India. But I know that after a year of research I can publish 5 to 6 papers. They told me this and they are quite trustworthy.

Yes I have passed all Steps including Step 3 with decent scores.

The research that I will be involved is breakthrough research if the model suceeds. It is very important from the university perspective.

I want to do Dermatology. I understand that it is quite impossible to get it. But I want to do research in Derm for a year or two. Then hopefully I will get it.

Based on this research, do you think I have a chance for EB-1.

Again, your input/s are appreciated.

Thanks.
