Post citizenship questions

Hi,

I just started my citizenship process. I am curious to know the answer to the following questions for my future.

(1) In case, some time in future, if I want to hold Indian passport and give up American passport, what is the process to become American citizen again.

(2) My son will be a naturalized American citizen soon and my daughter is an American born citizen. When they have kids, what will be their citizenship if (a) their kids are born in India? , (b) their kids are born in USA? Will they have any flexibiliy to decide the citizenship of their kids?

A1.I am assuming you first want to switch from American Citizenship to Indian Citizenship first. When you re-apply for Indian citizenship for final approval you will have to go to the US consulate sign a declaration that you are renouncing US citizenship and take a certifiacte from him to that effect..only then you will get you Indian passport. Now after this to regain your citizenship I think you would have to start from square 1

A2.A child born abroad to two U.S. citizen parents acquires U.S. citizenship at birth, provided that one of the parents resided in the U.S. prior to the child's birth. No specific period of time for such residence is required.

A child born abroad to one U.S. citizen parent and one alien parent acquires U.S. citizenship at birth, provided the citizen parent was physically present in the U.S. for the time period required by the law (which i think is 5 years after obtaining the age of maturity (18) ).

The parents can opt for one citizenship of the child or the other provided they satisfy the conditions for citizenship. For ex If the child qualifies for US citizenship and is born in India the parents can simply not report the birth to the consulate and take Indian citizenship (If they do report the birth and not take a US passport the kid will be unable to enter the US).Similarly if the child is born in the US and one of the parents is Indian they can apply for an Indian passport by filing an affidavit that they are not applying for a US passport for the child.
