Question #1: Name (Family name in CAPS)

Do I put her maiden name? Or do I put my last name, since we were recently married?

I would assume that I put her mew last name (mine!) because further down the form, on question # 7, it asks for "Other names Used" (Including Maiden name)

Thanks for any help - I jsut want to make sure this is right before sending it out....

Mike

Q1 - That's her present name (your last) - if she accepts it
Other names - her maiden name.
I guess you will or you 've already changed her maiden name everywhere :) Good luck

You assumed right. Unless your wife has no intention to change her last name to yours, you should write down your last name under “family name” in I-130 and following I-485 applications.

Now I need to ask a silly Question on Form I-485

Same situation,

Part 1. Information about You (Her)

Under: Family Name

What do I put...her family name?...or my name (her new last name!)?

Again, I assume my name.....but you know what one does when they assume :)

thanks

Mike! You are being silly indeed! :p
I already answered this question:

The bottom line is to write the name you(and her of course) want to appear on her GC.
If she wants to have your last name on all her documents than I-130 and I-145 applications is a good way to start changing the last name. Even if she didn’t change her passport, DL or any other ID she has to her married name (yours) yet, she can still write it in the GC application (I-485).
Marriage certificate is enough proof of a legal name change.
Think, what would be faster and much easier:
1) To apply for a GC with her new name now and be done with it or
2) Apply with her maiden name and then, when she finally gets her new shiny GC she will have to reapply for a replacement GC right way and pay additional fees just to change it to another one bearing her new married last name??

More silly questions? :)
