Here is my scenario, need your valuable advice --
1. I am going to finish my MS in May 2014.
2. I have applied to PhD program in couple of other schools.
3. As I am not sure I will be able to get into a decent PhD program, so I have applied for OPT so that I can look for jobs.
4. The PhD programs (given that if I get admission) will start from mid august 2014.
5. So, I have three months in hand, June-July-August.
6. My PhD admission results should come out in april-may, after that, I need to get a new I-20.
7. Hopefully I will get my EAD card on may, and I also have some pre-communication with a potential employer for 3 months contract job.
Here is my question --
1. Can I work for 3 months on OPT?
2. If get a PhD admission, I need to get a new I-20.
3. OPT regulation states that I am not allowed to do both study + work while on OPT, and if I enroll, my OPT will be void automatically.
4. There will be a possible conflict with my OPT status and issuance of a new I-20 during July-August.
what shoud I do now?
I do not want to loose OPT option (since I am not sure if I will get a funded PhD admit), and on the other hand I need a job for the June-July-August time frame, and want to continue on OPT if I don't get a PhD admit.
please suggest.
