Possibility of doing a post-doc after only one year spent in home country due to Fulbright 2y rule?

Hi,

I have an opportunity of going back to the university where I am presently doing my predoctoral Fulbright research scholarship to do a post doc. My program in the US is about to end and I plan to graduate in my home country in the spring of 2014. The post doc position will be available starting autumn 2014, but, by then, I will have spent only one year fulfilling the home residency rule.

My questions are: Does 2 y rule apply for a post doc? And, is there a possibility to postpone the 2 y rule? Thank you very much! Any advice is highly appreciated!

If you apply for an F1 visa, you are not required to completely fulfill the two year requirement in order to get a student visa. But to qualify for a green card, you should completely fulfill the two year requirement or get a waiver. You can also get rid of the rest one year by going home for summer breaks while you study.
