Hi Everybody,

My and my wife's skin tests came out positive. So we are going for chest x-rays.

What happens if the chest x-rays don't come out to be normal too ?

Start packing our bags or what ?

And what happens if the chest x-rays come normal ? Is is reqd. to provide a proof that we are getting the treatment ? Do normal x-rays result in RFEs ?

Thanks for your help.

If x-ray comes normal, she does not need to do anything. Doctor will mention that she is clean in sealed-report. If she is Indian it's quite normal to have positive in skin-test.
However, if her x-ray shows sign of TB, she needs to get treatment for TB. If you have insurance, it is going to cover that treatment. Once her threatment is complete, she needs to go back to the same doctor with all the treatment reports (if you have HMO and it not the same doctor that is assigned by your insurance company) where she is getting your skin-test/x-ray done and get the sealed report.

Thanks for your reply Pralay,

I have two specific questions:

1.If the chest xray is normal (but skin test wasn't), then should we insist on getting the treatment. I mean since positive skin test & normal x-ray indicates inactive TB, what are the chances of getting an RFE later on which would want us to prove that we took the required medicine to kill the inactive TB. I don't like popping antibiotics, but for the fear of RFE (and inactive TB becoming active in future ) I'll do that.

2.If the chest x-ray is not normal, then ofcourse we'll go for treatment, probably more for our own sake. But can we go ahead with the I-485 application in this case, or would we have to wait 6 months to complete the treatment before we file the I-485.

Thanks again for your time and help.

Most of the times skin-test comes positive due to the TB vaccine we take in India. If xray is normal there is nothing to treat. Even my and my wife's test came positive in skin-test. There won't be any RFE if xray is normal.

In past you could file I-485 without medical report. Then when USCIS asks for medical report in RFE you could reply with complete report. But recently I was was seeing somewhere that USCIS made a policy that they are not going to accept I-485 application without medical. But I am not sure how much true it is. Please check with your attorney.

Looks like our chest x-rays came out normal.

I read in some other message in this forum where people were talking about an "x-ray report". What is this report ?

The I 693 has a place to put the results of the chest x-ray.

Is there supposed be another document explaining the results of the x-ray enclosed in the sealed envelope along with the I-693.

If there is any such document, I'll make sure I get that from the doc.

Thanks again.

The radiologist examining the x-ray will give a letter depending on outcome. show this letter to uscis doctor and they will take care of rest.

Additional document not required. The I-693 form is good enough. The doctor who is filling up I-693 is an USCIS listed doctor. His exmination and verdict in I-693 form is enough. Otherwise he would not be in USCIS list.

Thanks a lot Mr. Pralay,

You were really helpful.

Those damn people at the doctor's and attorney's office have noting but attitude, confusion and bills to offer.

Thanks
